"The instructors joined us in many of our classes, and I find that is an unusual but wonderful thing. I am so grateful I had the chance to practice with the instructors and hope it is encouraged in your other exchanges! Also, the instructors coming to the classes shows that they felt that the classes were new and creative and fun (because going to the same class in a different city every weekend would be boring)."

About BFX

From south Texas to the Pacific Northwest and Southern California, the Fusion Exchange finally heads East: to Boston for 2011! And this year, we bring you even more including: 3 concurrent class choices; 3 simultaneous rooms of music for dancing; and 2 sets of original fusion music composed by David Keogh!

The Fusion Exchange has developed a reputation for being one of the most professionally run and innovative dance events in the United States. Every year, the Fusion Exchange offers something new. Last year, attendees enthusiastically enjoyed dancing to music specifically composed for the Fusion Exchange. This year, we have many seasoned instructors who are making their first appearances at a Fusion Exchange to bring you new, inspiring, and challenging classes. Plus, all classes and dances will be held at one venue specifically designed for dancing. Boston Fusion Exchange is going to be the best event yet!

Why Fusion?

Because Fusion tells us it's okay to break out of that box we've been dancing in. Be free to follow your heart, your emotions, and your feet in social partner dancing. The Fusion Exchange challenges dancers to broaden their love of dance to incorporate many different dance styles in order to embody all the sounds and rhythms the music has to offer. Whether blues, tango, swing, west coast swing, salsa, pop, hip-hop, trip-hop, or music that incorporates sounds from all these genres and more, every dancer is challenged to "dance outside the box" and use their dance backgrounds and lessons learned in classes to break down barriers and understand that you can dance to practically anything. It is a celebration of individual expression, and sharing that experience with others through social dance.

What is Fusion?

Fusion dancing is combining dance styles to match whatever music is playing. Driven by the melodies and rhythms of the music and the collective experience of the dancers, Fusion blends a multitude of styles— particularly blues, tango, west coast swing, lindy, waltz, and hip-hop— to interpret a wide variety of music genres. Each partner fully contributes to and influences the dance; both follows and leads actively inspire each other. The fusion exchange is about embracing our varied backgrounds to create something new. It has no one defined aesthetic. It is, simply put, imagination in motion.

What is Fusion Music?

Hear it for yourself on Project Playlist! You can stream all of our playlists for free. Plus, David Keogh returns to bring us another taste of his music composed specifically with Fusion dancers in mind. Check out David's page on ReverbNation to sample some of the awesome sounds yourself.

Instructors
